On our journey through the desert to the impact zone I remembered seeing the skeleton of a camel, picked clean by scavengers and time, slumped in a dune but looking for all the world like it might just get up and walk away. On the third day of filming, we decided head several hours south back the way we came, hoping to find it, but to shoot landscapes along the way.
It was just the producer, the driver, and me.
I never found the camel but instead shot some very atmospheric landscapes and mirages. I’m not a fan of selfies, but needs must. I found the experience of being left alone in the Nubian desert while our Landrover drove to the horizon quite amazing.
