The building manager at Hield Brothers – Mumtaz – took the time to show me around the old mill, clearly a place he was very attached to despite the fact that large parts of it had been derelict for a long time. It reminded me of the empty and abandoned factories that I used to play in when growing up in Fitzroy, Melbourne. Mumtaz said he’d worked there for over thirty years and could remember what it was like when the place was at full stretch.
